Free campsites in Missouri

Don't know if any of you are interested, but thought I would post this listing of free Conservation Commission campsites in Missouri. If you're passing through sometime and need a place to stay this might come in handy. I hope this link works.
Free Campsites in Missouri
I was afraid of that. It didn't come through with the search complete. You will have to click on the 'Camping Along Roads and Parking' choice and hit 'Find'. You will then get a complete list of spots at the bottom of the resulting page. These conservation areas are great camping due to the fact that they are seldom crowded and usually remote.

RE: Mr. Heater Little Buddy.

When we went to Alaska a couple of years ago I had problems with my truck camper heater due to a nest of ladybugs in the orafice (which I didn't know was the problem at the time), but we used our Little Buddy heater, this model Our Model the whole 6 months and it worked great in our camper.

RE: Diesel below $4.00

The oil companies have a fantastic way of making us happy with higher prices. They continually raise the price until we scream and then drop it back a little. We are very excited about the reduction even though it is considerably higher than it was when prices started up. Unfortunately we are at their mercy.
Exxon Mobil had a $40,610,000,000 profit in 2007. Here is a link to their financial statements.

RE: boondocking sites in SW MO or NW Ar.

There are lots of places in the Mark Twain NF where you can dry camp. Also you can check the MO. Dept. of Conservation website and find Conservation areas in SW MO. Some of these will have camping that is free.

RE: Are TC's welcome in RV resorts yet?

I don't go to resort campgrounds.
State Parks, Forest Service, COE and National Parks are so much nicer. About the only thing I think we're missing out on is a pool for my kids.
Find a nice stream to camp beside and the kids can swim. I'm with you. I'd rather camp anywhere than an RV resort.

RE: rewinterizing camper

Because of other things going on in our life, new granddaughter, other non RV travel plans, etc, we will likely not get the truck camper out this year. Is last falls "pink stuff" still good for freezup protection or do I need to drain and refill?
I take it your camper is still winterized from last winter. You never did use it. The pink stuff should be good for this coming winter. I wouldn't bother changing it myself.

RE: Best method to level a Truck and camper?

I use 4 2x12 inch boards. I cut a 45 degree angle in the end of each one. I have two that are about 20" long and two that are about 16" long. I have also screwed a half inch piece of plywood to the bottom of each to help keep them from splitting. I can stack them on top of each other and usually get up on them. They have been adequate for my needs for three years now.

RE: Moving eyebolts on Alpenlite trailer????

I'm having a hard time figuring out why this is rubbing. Do your tiedown bars under the camper extend out? Mine do. I have Alpenlite also but not a dually. My back tiedown in bolted to my bumper. My front tiedown bar is right behind the cab and extends out.

RE: What is the coolest/neatest part of your TC?

I like the large windows looking out from our dinette. It gives us a great view of the outdoors, even on cool rainy days.

RE: BatteryMINDER

I don't understand your question. Are you asking if one can charge their batteries by simply plugging into the generator?
I have done that but it is a little slow. I usually recharge mine during the day when I am driving. My truck alternator recharges it.

RE: Trip Report: Maine Part I

Where is it that you are camping? Looks nice.
Never mind. I did a search and found the campground. Kind of pricey. Are there any national forests in the area?

RE: Fuel Issues & Prices - Post 'Em Here!

Since you invited me, I will opine!
I believe that all representatives and congressmen that have served over the past twenty years should be convicted of treason and hung by the neck until dead. This would be for their crimes committed against the united states by creating the energy situation that we are in today.
With that being said, we must do a few things to start the ball rolling in the right direction.
1) Repeal all laws restricting drilling in ANWR and off of our coasts.
2) Build some refineries. Oil is useless without a way to turn it into fuel.
3) Embrace nuclear energy. We made a few bad films about Nuclear that devastated the industry.
4) Dump the subsidy and mandate for "food to fuel" programs. Admit it was a bad idea.
If we embrace some of these ideas, we may see some relief down the road. If not, we won't.
I saw yesterday where the House passed a bill allowing us to sue OPEC. That is simply insanity. If anyone should be sued it should be the idiots in Washington.
Ok I'm done. I have to go to work now. ;-)
(I need to stop and put $150 worth of gas in my Suburban)
Jeff
From MSNBC:WASHINGTON - "Opening an Alaska wildlife refuge to oil development would only slightly reduce America’s dependence on imports and would lower oil prices by less than 50 cents a barrel, according to an analysis released Tuesday by the Energy Department.
The report, issued by the Energy Information Administration, or EIA, said that if Congress gave the go-ahead to pump oil from Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the crude could begin flowing by 2013 and reach a peak of 876,000 barrels a day by 2025.
But even at peak production, the EIA analysis said, the United States would still have to import two-thirds of its oil, as opposed to an expected 70 percent if the refuge’s oil remained off the market."
I don't think destroying native habitats is the answer. Congress has nothing to do with building oil refineries.
I do think the ethonal idea is insane. Nuclear power could be a help.
I guess that is what we get for electing an oil man president.

RE: Kansas City camping

The Missouri Dept. of Conservation has a lot of conservation areas around Missouri and some of them have free camping. You will need to check a Missouri map and see what counties lie in your route, probably the ones along I-70. Then go to this link and check the counties that you want to and see what areas have camping.
If you have questions please let me know.

You'll have to go back a bit to see it since it was two years ago.

RE: Propane for fridge while driving?

I don't run fridge while driving. I freeze a quart bottle of water each night and put it in fridge when traveling during the day. It stays nice and cool and then turn it back on when I stop for the day.

RE: where do you mount your television your truck camper?

I just bought an inexpensive ac/dc dvd tv from Walmart and mounted it on a swivel base I made myself. I probably don't have but about $100 in the tv and all.
Here is a photo.

RE: Would you buy a diesel again (second time)

If you charge the diesel with an opportunity charge, over 7 years the lower interest payments would allow you to buy another 10000 miles or so at todays prices too.
What?

I don't know how it is wired so I guess the solution will be to run with the batteries on.
